Wimbledon Update
Five players in Wimbledon to represent the Academy with 4 directly qualified for the final board: Yung-Jan CHAN, Marcos BAGHDATIS, two in juniors: Cindy CHALA and Caesar RAMIREZ and Anastasia PAVLYUCHENKOVA in qualifications.
The success crowned Anastasia's efforts, who attend the final board as the youngest player and repeats her Roland Garros's performance. A remarkable road, as a qualified player, she reached the 3rd tour of the Grand Slam. Winner on Alizé Cornet, head of series N°17 in only 2 sets, on the redoubtable Na Li WTA N°45 in the 2nd tour, before a defeat against Radwanska, WTA N°11.
Coached by Patrick Mouratoglou for a year now (since July 07), Anastasia, then ranked WTA 300 adopts a very fast progression at the pros and attends today TOP 100 at only 16.
The junior world champion 2006 counts a remarkable prize list down from her young age (16 years) with three titles in Grand Slam: Open of Australia 2006 and 2007 and US OPEN on 2006. Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova is pointed as one of the strong hopes of tennis.
Semi-finalist in 2006 and quarter finalist in 2007, Marcos Baghdatis, 25 World Player and head of series N°10. Has launched well launched his season on grass after having reached the quarterfinals in tournament Halle Gery Weber. In Wimbledon, he reached the 1/8 finals and defeated honourably after a match of the tightest in front of Feliciano Lopez.
Further more of these results, Marcos Baghdatis is playing good and is very motivated and enthusiastic. His new collaboration with Peter Lundgren seems to be very good. Marcos Baghdatis is giving a new breath to his tennis career. You will definitely hear a lot of Marcos in the next months.
For the juniors, Cesar Ramirez lost on the quarter finale against the Bulgur Grigor Dimitrov. This very charismatic Mexican Player is now ranked N°3 Junior after playing the semi-finale of Roland Garros Junior.
Difficult game for the young player Yung-Jan CHAN, WTA N° 71 who meets from the 1st tour Dinara Safina, WTA N°9 and finalist of Roland Garros. She lost on 2 sets in the term of a very physical match. But her brilliant course 2008 offers her the opportunity to embodies the Taiwanese flag in the Olympic Games in simple as in double.
Difficult game also for Cindy Chala who lost on the first tour against Tamarine Hendler who attend the semi-finales.

Feedback on Roland Garros
The Academy had a strong team of players, from rookies to confirmed, with two players in qualifications: Irena PAVLOVIC and Anastasia PAVLYUCHENKOVA, three players on the final board: Yung-Jan CHAN, Marcos BAGHDATIS, Aravane REZAI, and two in juniors: Cindy CHALA and Caesar RAMIREZ.
Unfortunately, this year, the results turn out disappointing globally: Irena PAVLOVIC collides with the Rumanian players, Niculescu, very performing actually and was eliminated in the first tour of the qualifications. Marcos BAGHDATIS, in lack of marks and competition these last months, has been defeated in the first tour of the final board against the Italian Simone BOLLELLI, and Aravane Rezaï undergoes the same fate face to the Russian Nadia PETROVA.
To the rank of satisfactions, Anastasia PAVLYUCHENKOVA's very beautiful performance which qualifies herself and becomes the youngest player of the final board (16 years). She wins even the first tour of the final board and only lost against Flavie PENETTA in three sets. The young Russian logically registers this breakthrough after the progress and the good results she realized since February. Thanks to the second tour, she reaches the 138th WTA Ranking.

On the way to participate in the Olympic games in simple as in double, Latisha (her European nickname), accumulated matches successfully.
Numerous victories, particularly at the Roma Open in double, and a semi-final in simple at Strasbourg the week previous the Grand Slam. She arrived a bit tired at Roland Garros and has been eliminated from the first tour face to a very strong adversary, Pironkova, in the term of a beautiful match in which will she missed physical coolness.
However, in double, Latisha reached the quarterfinals being defeated only on the score of 6/7 7/5 7/5 against the Spanish, future pair winner of the tournament. Thanks to her recent performances, her WTA ranking 71 in simple and 8th in double.
$145 000 WTA Tournament in Fés Morocco: Tournament Accomplished!
A great tournament in Morocco this week for the Academy's players. They started off as three with two in the qualifications: Anastasia Pavluchenkova and Ksenia Milevskaya. Ksenia won her first qualifying match 6/2 6/2 but then unfortunately lost against Anastasia with the score of 6/1 6/2. Anastasia then went on to beat the Spanish 120th in the world: Soler Espinoza 6/2 6/3. In the main draw she overwhelmed the marocain wild card 6/0 6/1, but then lost against the Romanian Sorana Cirstea 6/4 6/2. A helpful week for Anastasia who subsequently climbed to the 202nd place on the WTA Tour rankings. In addition to her singles week she was crowned with yet another doubles title this time with Cirstea beating Kleybanova and Makarova. Whilst as for Aravane Rezaï, she also had had a very constructive week. After a huge encounter in the quarter finals against the Russian Alissa Kleybanova 5/7 7/5 7/5, she went down having a set point in the first set to the Argentine Dulko 7/6 6/3 who ultimately was the winner of the tournament. An outcome that helps Aravane rise back up to 46th position on the WTA Tour. | |

What a tournament! After a $25,000 victory in Minsk and a quarterfinal win in Saint-Petersburg, the young, 16 year old Russian player has just dominated the $25,000 tournament in Moscow.
A quick 6/0 6/2 victory in the final proves that Patrick Mouratoglou's student is making remarkable progress. |
First victory in a $25,000 tournament for Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova
Sixteen year old Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova won her first ITF tournament in Minsk (Belarus, $25,000) early March.
