$145 000 WTA Tournament in Fés Morocco: Tournament Accomplished!

A great tournament in Morocco this week for the Academy's players. They started off as three with two in the qualifications: Anastasia Pavluchenkova and Ksenia Milevskaya.

Ksenia won her first qualifying match 6/2 6/2 but then unfortunately lost against Anastasia with the score of 6/1 6/2. Anastasia then went on to beat the Spanish 120th in the world: Soler Espinoza 6/2 6/3. In the main draw she overwhelmed the marocain wild card 6/0 6/1, but then lost against the Romanian Sorana Cirstea 6/4 6/2. A helpful week for Anastasia who subsequently climbed to the 202nd place on the WTA Tour rankings. In addition to her singles week she was crowned with yet another doubles title this time with Cirstea beating Kleybanova and Makarova.

Whilst as for Aravane Rezaï, she also had had a very constructive week. After a huge encounter in the quarter finals against the Russian Alissa Kleybanova 5/7 7/5 7/5, she went down having a set point in the first set to the Argentine Dulko 7/6 6/3 who ultimately was the winner of the tournament. An outcome that helps Aravane rise back up to 46th position on the WTA Tour.

Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova continues her winning streak.

What a tournament! After a $25,000 victory in Minsk and a quarterfinal win in Saint-Petersburg, the young, 16 year old Russian player has just dominated the $25,000 tournament in Moscow.

A quick 6/0 6/2 victory in the final proves that Patrick Mouratoglou's student is making remarkable progress.

First victory in a $25,000 tournament for Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova

Sixteen year old Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova won her first ITF tournament in Minsk (Belarus, $25,000) early March.

Patrick Mouratoglou's student
had a great week, only losing a set in the semi-final against the 136th player in the world. She dominated the final with a clear-cut score of 6/0 6/1.

2008 AUSTRALIAN OPEN RECAP

We obtained mixed results at this year's Australian Open. While the players played great matches, they were unable to advance very far in the draw.

Marcos Baghdatis was unlucky with the random draw that allotted him only former tournament winners or finalists: he solidly defeated Johansson in the first round. The great Marat Safin awaited him in the second round.

The two players played a beautiful evening match in five sets. Marcos finally dominated 6/2 in the fifth set. His game level was excellent; so much so that we had hopes for a great tournament. Unfortunately, he was up against Hewitt in the next round, and was eliminated in five sets that ended at 4 o'clock in the morning.

Aravane Rezai arrived in Melbourne very confident after her final in Auckland. She beat Bondarenko in two sets. She played Tatiana Golovin (13th seed) in the second round and won the match in three sets, aided by her powerful shots.

Despite having given it her all, Aravane was eliminated by the impressive Chinese player, Hsieh, in the next round. Trailing 6/2 5/2, Aravane hung on and was finally able to win the second set, but lost 6/4 in the decisive set.

Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova did not have a memorable Australian Open.

After losing to the Suisse player, Timea Baczinski, in the second round of qualifications, she was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the junior tournament, but won its doubles final.

We are confident that she will get back on track in the upcoming weeks.

Cindy Chala wins the Traralgon Grade 1 junior tournament in Australia

On the heels of a solid winter preparation, Cindy CHALA, born in 1991 and currently ranked 28th in the juniors, recently dominated the Traralgon Grade 1 junior tournament without losing a set.

It was a magnificent week that confirms the current progress of the young French player. After two rest days, she will participate in a second Grade 1, followed by the Australian Open Junior tournament.

Anastasia PAVLYUCHENKOVA reached the semi-finals but was forced to forfeit the tournament due to a pain in her shoulder. She will participate in the Australian Open as of January 10th.

Pre-tournament preparation in Mauritius

The Academy players who are on the WTA circuit were able to take advantage of idyllic Mauritius in an exceptional hotel: Le Paradis to perfect their pre-tournament preparation before the upcoming outdoor competitions.

Thanks to a partnership with Head, who are also partners with the Beachcomber hotels (owners of Le Paradis hotel), Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Ksenia Milevskaya, Cindy Chala, Irena Pavlovic, Mandy Minella, et Katerina Bohmova were given the opportunity to train in ideal conditions for one week.

Supervised by Patrick Mouratoglou, and overseen by physical trainer Frédéric Lefebvre; coaches Mehdi Daouki, Frédéric Caselles, Luis Moris; sparring partners Frédéric Armirail and Guillaume Legat, and Franck Boucher, marketing director of Head France.

Check out our blog to view the beautiful photos and a summary of our week.

Aravane Rezai decided to go directly to Australia to complete her preparation. Her family and her sparring partner from the Academy, Sébastien Louis, are with her.

Marcos Baghdatis preferred to go to Dubaï, accompanied by his physical trainer Sébastien Durand and his coach, Yiannos Hadjigeorgiou.

Camila Giorgi reaches two quarterfinals in a $25,000 tournament

While most of the female players prepared their 2008 season in Mauritius, Camila participates in two $25,000 tournaments where she reaches the quarterfinals twice.

Results that bring joy after a difficult November.
